Luck eluded AAP candidate Shazia Ilmi as she lost the R K Puram seat to Anil Sharma of the BJP by a slender margin of 326 votes, but not before giving a tough challenge by leading twice during the counting of Delhi Assembly poll results today.

In a keenly contested election, 43-year-old Ilmi overtook Sharma in the sixth and twelfth rounds, triggering euphoria among her supporters, but that excitement proved short-lived as she failed to keep the momentum going.

Party workers, however, did not give up hope till the last vote was counted even if they began to reconcile with the poll results.

Shazia who was trailing behind Sharma till the fifth round overtook him in the sixth round of counting by 218 votes sparking off jubilation in her camp.

However, she again fell behind Sharma in the seventh round and continued to lag till the 11th round but improved her margin and surpassed Sharma in the twelfth round by 37 votes.

But she could not hold on to her leads and went down, not recovering her margin of votes ending up being defeated by 326 votes.
