Shigmo festivities to begin in Goa from Mar 14

After the famous Goa Carnival, its time for Shigmo festivities in the state, which will see float parades being organised across 17 locations beginning from March 14.

State Tourism department has been organizing the float parades which will begin at Ponda on March 14, a senior tourism department official said today.

"The parades will continue in various rural parts of Goa, spanning over a fortnight with different days earmarked for celebrations in different areas," he said.

The city of Panaji will witness the float parade on March 18, 2017. The float parade will end in Pernem and Sankhalim on March, 27 2017.
 

"This year, steps are being initiated to ensure that the Shigmo parade in the capital city begins on time. It is proposed to start the parade at sharp 4:30 PM so that the parade does not drag on till mid-night and does not cause congestion and disturbance," he said.

All the Shigmo parade committees have been directed to discuss and finalise the Shigmo parade routes in their respective areas in consultation with the district magistrates and police, the department said.

Thousands of tourists are expected to visit the state to witness the spectacular Shigmo parades.

The Shigmo parades are known for demonstrating the essence of Goa'sfavorite springfestival on the streets all across the state.
