Shimla Municipal Corporation to go for polls tomorrow

Elaborate arrangements have been made for the Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) polls tomorrow and hundreds of civil, police and other employees have been deputed to ensure a free and peaceful election.

Shimla Deputy Commissioner Rohan Chand Thakur who is also the returning officer, had cautioned the political parties and voters against indulging in bogus voting and said that criminal cases would be registered against such voters.

The polling would start at 8 AM and close at 4 PM.

Out of the 153 polling booths, 23 have been declared as very sensitive and 56 as sensitive and in all 1500 employees would be on poll duty tomorrow.
 

The counting of votes would take place on June 1.

As many as 91,000 voters would exercise their franchise during the seventh election to SMC.

The elections are not being held on party symbols but three major contenders, the BJP, the Congress and the CPI(M) are backing candidates.
