The wait for Signature Bridge near Wazirabad has got longer with Delhi government extending the deadline for completion of its construction work by five months.

The earlier deadline for the project was April this year.

Signature Bridge, which was conceptualised in 2004, has seen its deadline extended numerous times.

Replying to a question by AAP MLA Rajesh Pal Gautam in Delhi Assembly, PWD minister Satyendar Jain today said the work tender for the project had been awarded in February 2010.

"The Signature Bridge will be dedicated to the people by September 2017," Jain told the House.

An official cited demonetisation as reason for extending the deadline, saying sufficient labourers were not available in the city due to the scrapping of high-value bank notes.

Asked about the project cost, the Minister also said while previous government had allocated a budget of Rs 1,131 crore, Rs 1225 crore has been spent on the project so far.
