Silver prices edged higher by 0.10 per cent to Rs 34,248 per kg in evening trade in futures market today, tracking a firm trend overseas.

The exchange remained closed for the morning session on account of 'Id-e-Milad'.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in March next year rose by Rs 33 or 0.10 per cent to Rs 34,248 per kg in business turnover of 877 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in far-month May contracts edged higher by Rs 29 or 0.08 per cent to Rs 34,647 per kg in 3 lots.

Analysts attributed the rise in silver prices to a firm global trend as weak dollar boosted demand for the precious metals as a safe haven.

Meanwhile, silver rose 0.07 per cent to USD 14.32 an ounce in London.
