Silver prices were up 0.38 per cent to Rs 34,161 per kg in futures trading today as participants built up fresh positions, tracking a better trend overseas.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in September gained Rs 130, or 0.38 per cent to Rs 34,161 per kg in a business turnover of 8,589 lots.
Likewise, the white metal for delivery in December traded higher by Rs 95, or 0.27 per cent to Rs 34,843 per kg in 320 lots.

Market analysts said fresh positions built up by speculators buoyed by a firm global trend on speculation that investors have factored in a US interest-rate increase, which may happen as early as next month, supported the upside in silver prices in futures trade here.
Meanwhile, silver jumped 0.68 per cent to USD 14.91 an ounce in London.
