The Odisha police today claimed to have busted an inter-state gang allegedly involved in betting during IPL cricket matches and arrested six persons in connection with it from Sambalpur district.

The police recovered more than Rs 67,000 in cash and 10 mobile phones from the possession of the accused, a police officer said.

A special squad was formed after a tip-off about the gang operating in the city and the team nabbed its members during a raid, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sambalpur district, Sanjeev Arora, said.

The gang was operating from here since the beginning of the 11th edition of the IPL on April 7, the police officer said.

Betting was being carried out for every ball, every over and every wicket, he said.

Further investigation is in progress, the SP said, adding the gang is suspected to have links with people outside the state.

It is suspected that more people are involved in the racket, Arora said.

The police had busted a similar racket on Thursday and nabbed a gang that was operating from Aska in Ganjam district, a police officer said.
