Six persons who managed to give police a slip by attacking them with red chilly powder and an iron rod allegedly after stealing mobile phones from two shops in Kilokari village of southeast Delhi have been arrested.

The accused had allegedly broken shutters of the two shops in the wee hours of December 30 and looted mobile phones from there.

When two policemen of Sunlight Colony police station, patrolling the area, confronted them, the accused threw chilly powder in their eyes, attacked them with an iron rod and fled, DCP (southeast) Romil Baaniya said.

A case in this connection was registered at Sunlight Colony police station.

During investigation it was found that burglaries were reported at many shops in that fortnight. Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a vehicle near Modi Mill flyover yesterday and arrested the accused, the police officer said, adding they were going to sell the looted items.

The accused have been identified as Rahim, Anwarul Momin, Chand Mohammad, Shah Rukh, Samir and Mohsin. A total of 44 smart phones, an iron rod, six red chilly powder packets, readymade garments and LED TV were recovered from them, the DCP said.
