Six Maoists held in Telangana

Six alleged Maoists were today arrested in Chintagufa forest area under Venkatapuram circle limits in Khammam district, police said.

The accused, identified as Girida Bandi alias Delip (24), a guerrilla squad member, Madakam Nandaiah alias Andaiah (22) a militia commander, Gungam Adamaiah (20), Madakam Ithaiah (25), Madakam Sannaiah (30) and Madivi Gangaiah (35).

"The accused were involved in several criminal cases," Bhadrachalam Assistant Superintendent of Police R Bhaskaran said.

"The rebels were caught at Chintagufa forest area during a combing operation carried out by Khammam district's special police party," he added.

Further investigation is on.

The DGP said that Maoist leader Pal carried an award
 

running into a few lakhs on his head in different states.

He said that the surrender was possible due to tireless efforts by the Kolkata police STF and the state police.

"They have realised that the path they chose was wrong and that is why they wanted to come back to the mainstream," he said.

The surrendered Maoist leader sought apology from the families of those who were killed (due to their violence).
