Two persons wanted in cases of

snatching, who would audaciously call police to tell them beforehand which area they were going to strike, have been arrested.

The duo, identified as Manoj Kumar Mishra (25) and Manish Kumar (33), were wanted in a series of snatching cases in West and Outer Delhi.

The accused were arrested yesterday following a tip-off from a parking lot in the Pashchim Vihar area by a team led by Inspector Dinesh Kumar.

"The duo used to call the Station House Officer of a particular area and challenge him to stop them from committing snatchings in his area. They even used to specify the number of snatchings they would commit," police said.

During interrogation, the duo said they used to specifically target women carrying bags.

The accused used a Bajaj Pulsar 220CC motorcycle, which was painted red in the front and black in the rear so that eyewitnesses got confused about its colour. They had also installed high-pressure horns on the bike which they would blow after committing a snatching to muffle any calls by a victim for help, police said.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Ranvir Singh, Manoj hailed from Munger in Bihar while Manish is a resident of Karnal in Haryana.

The duo have more than 90 cases registered against them. They used stolen motorcycles for carrying out the snatching offenses and lived lavishly.

Manoj used to travel by air between Delhi and Bihar every month. He also owns a Honda Accord car in Bihar. Manish owns a Honda City car, said Singh.

The two accused have been committing snatching since the last four years. Manoj has 32 cases against him while Manish is named in 59 cases, police added.

The duo was released from jail last month but, since then, have already committed more than 19 snatchings. Police recovered Rs 55,000 in cash and two motorcycles from them.
