Software engineer commits suicide, dowry harassment suspected

A woman software engineer working with a US-based accounting firm allegedly committed suicide at her house in Nizampet area here, with the police subsequently registering a case of dowry harassment against the in-laws.

Shailaja alias Bhargavi (29) allegedly hanged herself from ceiling with a sari, said inspector V Sreekanth Goud of KPHB police station today.

"We got the information this morning, but it seems she had hanged herself last night itself. Based on preliminary investigation, we have registered a case of abetment of suicide and dowry harassment against her husband and in-laws," he said.

No arrest had been made yet, Goud added. Further probe was underway.
