Assam Government Tuesday said some "irregularities" in the appointment of engineers in the Power Department have come to light.
In a written reply to a query by Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia, Power minister Topon Kumar Gogoi said "During the departmental enquiry, some irregularities have come to light in appointment of engineers in the Power Department."
Gogoi, however, claimed that there was no scam in the entire recruitment process.
"It is not true that candidates failing in written exams were called for the interviews. This process was completed in a transparent and clean way," the minister claimed.
The hiring process was conducted by the state-controlled Assam Institute of Management (AIM), which was engaged in a total of 27 such recruitment drives across other government departments and bodies during the last two years, he informed.
During the Question Hour, the minister announced that the government is going to hire 3,500 people in the PSU Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) in the next one year.
