Accusing some rival political parties of confining B R Ambedkar to photographs only, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma alleged on Sunday that no one had worked for the development and self-respect of the Dalits.
Addressing a workshop organised by the BJP's SC Morcha at the party office in Lucknow, Sharma said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had initiated a number of welfare steps for the Dalits across the country.
Saying that the country was indebted to the Dalit icon, the deputy chief minister said, "Some political parties have confined Ambedkar to photographs only. No one has worked for the development and self-respect of the Dalits."
However, Modi has started a number of welfare schemes for the Dalits, which has brought a "visible transformation" in their lives, the Bharatiya Janata Paty leader said.
"Modiji has developed five places related to the life of Babasaheb," he added.
