Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone of an engineering college in Biswanath district Wednesday, an official release said here.
The chief minister expressed confidence that the proposed engineering college at Jorabari would emerge as an institution of excellence in the field of technical education.
He hoped that the institution would inspire the students of the north bank of the Brahmaputra river in their academic pursuits, the release said.
Sonowal also highlighted the initiatives taken up for improving of communication by construction of several bridges over the Brahmaputra.
The state government has taken up various projects to make education affordable to students of financially disadvantaged families, he said.
The chief minister also urged the people to be alert against divisive forces who were trying to foment trouble in the society.
