South American bloc Mercosur confirms Venezuela's suspension

South American economic bloc Mercosur confirmed today it has suspended Venezuela, the harshest international punishment yet for President Nicolas Maduro's crisis-racked government.
The foreign ministers of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay said in a statement they had informed Venezuela it had "ceased to exercise its rights" as a member of Mercosur, citing a failure to comply with the group's rules on trade.
