Southern Railway forms child protection committee

A Divisional level committee in Salem division of Southern Railway has been formed to rescue and protect abandoned or missed children in railway stations, a Southern Railway release said today.

The committee, under nodal officer, V. Thavamani Pandi, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, will coordinate rescue and protection of such children,provide them accommodation and food at the railway station till they were given under the custody of the Child Welfare Centres, Government of Tamil Nadu, in the respective jurisdiction of the Stations.

The release said, the committee on behalf of the Tamil Nadu government, will ensure safe custody of the rescued children and decide whether to restore them to their parents or otherwise necessary assistance.
 

To start with Child Rescue Centres were formed in three major stations of the division--Salem, Erode and Coimbatore--and station level committees, headed by the Station Managers, will take care of such children, the release said.
