Samajwadi Party MP Neeraj Shekhar today said Dhyan Chand deserved Bharat Ratna and demanded that the Centre should honour the hockey player.
"Giving Bharat Ratna to Sachin is a welcome step but Dhyan Chand also deserves it. The Centre should award Bharat Ratna to him," Shekhar told reporters.
Praising Dhyan Chand he said that the player promoted hockey at the international level and did India proud.
Dhyan Chand helped India in winning gold medals in hockey in three successive Olympics games and led the gold medal winner Indian Hockey team in the historic 1936 Berlin Olympics.
The hockey wizard was honoured with the Padma Bhushan in 1956.
