Protesting against the non-release of their salaries for last six months, teachers under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) programme in Arunachal Pradesh have decided to abstain from election duty in the ensuing Lok Sabha and Assembly polls.

In a letter to Chief Electoral officer today, the All Arunachal Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers' Association (AASSATA) said that the decision was taken its several representatives had not been paid their salaries for the last six months.

"From October last year to March this year, the state government has failed to disburse our hard earned monthly salary even when we pleaded with them many times for the same," the association said in the letter.

It however, maintained that the decision would be revoked if the state government made the pending payment by March 15 next.
