Border guarding force Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) today donated over Rs 1.89 crore, total of a day's earnings of its troopers, in the relief fund for the victims of Uttarakhand rains and flash floods.

SSB chief Arun Chaudhary along with his senior officers met Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna here and handed over the cheque to him as a mark of solidarity with the victims.

The total amount of contribution stood at Rs 1,89,60,137.

The SSB too bore the brunt of the nature's fury in the hill state as its Officers Training academy in Srinagar was hit by floods and it suffered a damage to the tune of Rs 80 crore.

The about 40,000 personnel strong SSB guards Indian frontiers with Nepal and Bhutan.

Other paramilitary forces like CRPF, CISF and BSF have already made their separate contributions for the same cause.
