State Skill Development Mission constituted in JK: Ansari

Jammu and Kashmir Technical Education and Youth Services and Sports Minister Moulvi Imran Raza Ansari today said the state government has setup the State Skill Development Mission and modalities for registering skill development societies are being worked out.

He informed the House that the State Skill Development Mission is being headed by the Chief Minister.

Replying to a question by Rani Gargi Blowria in the Upper House, the Minister said no funds have been allocated to the state during the previous two years under National Skill Development Mission (NSDM), but the department, separately, has trained 100 youths in different trades and 510 youths are being trained at various ITIs in convergence with other departments/organizations that are not covered by the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY).
 

All the activities of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) are being monitored by MSDE, GoI, he informed.

An action plan for skilling 47,302 youth up to 2020 in the state is being formulated in consultation with MSDE, Ansari said.

The Minister stated that apart from the centre sponsored schemes, skill-development trainings in different trades are being imparted to the youth through ITIs.

He said the government would also explore possibility of providing training to the youth through private ITIs.

To provide jobs to the skilled youth, 'job melas' were conducted at Srinagar and Jammu in which 1,050 skilled youth were provided employment, Ansari said.

He said the government is also tying-up with various national and international companies for providingemployment to skilled youth of the state.

Legislators Ashok Khajuria, Saif-ud-Din Bhat and GN Monga raised supplementary questions.
