Charging ruling AIADMK workers with committing 'large-scale excesses' in Srirangam assembly constituency where bypoll will be held on February 13, a people's protection movement today sought a stay on announcing results till cases are registered by police on more than 600 complaints and action is taken for prosecution.
Petitioner Fathima, General secretary of 'Makkal Padukappu Kazhagam', submitted that though more than 600 complaints had been filed on 'atrocities' by ruling partymen but no action had been taken, proving that the official machinery was being misused.
She charged government officials with abetting these excesses and said the entire state apparatus was being misused. Free movement of people had been affected by installation of hoardings on a main thoroughfare. Power was being drawn from lamp posts, which was illegal. There was also corruption in the by-election process, the petitioner said.
Justice B Rajendran then transferred the case to the Chennai principal High Court bench where election-related cases are being heard.
