Officials of the port and fisheries department along with Udupi MLA Pramod Madhawaraj visited areas affected by sea erosion in the Malpe beach in Udupi near here today.
Properties along the beach including coconut trees, hoardings, notices and stone benches for visitors were washed away.
Madhawaraj ordered the officials to take immediate steps to tackle the situation.
Deputy Commissioner Muddu Mohan said that areas prone to erosion had been identified and a nodal officer appointed. Steps were being taken to prevent sea erosion by putting up boulders along the affected areas.
