An official of the Food and Drug Controller Administration here was today suspended for issuing GMP (good manufacturing practises) certificate to Mahawar Pharam Pvt Ltd, the supplier of substandard medicines allegedly given to the victims of sterilisation surgeries in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district.

"Assistant drug inspector Hemant Shrivastav has been suspended with immediate effect," said an official release.

In 2011, 13 of 17 samples of drugs manufactured by Mahawar Pharma were found to be substandard, following which product permission license for some of its products was cancelled while one of the products was banned completely.

Five court cases were also filed against the company. Despite all this, the licensing authority issued GMP to it in 2014, the release said.

Therefore, Shrivastav was suspended under the provisions of the Chhattisgarh Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, it added.
