Action thriller series "Strike Back" could be coming back and this time on the big screen.

The TV series drew to a close this year after five pulse-pounding seasons, but now a movie version is in the works, reported Entertainment Weekly.

Series leads Sullivan Stapleton and Philip Winchester are apparently "likely" to reprise their roles as Section 20 agents Damien Scott and Michael Stonebridge in a film.

The TV series ended with Scott and Stonebridge surviving one last epic gunfight and retiring from active duty - but it seems the dynamic pair could now be called back into action.

The "Strike Back" movie would shoot in South America in 2016 and could lead to further films, with producers Left Bank Pictures apparently keen on launching a franchise.

Since the series wrapped, both its leads have found new jobs on NBC - Stapleton stars opposite Jaimie Alexander in "Blindspot", while Winchester fronts "The Player" with Wesley Snipes.
