A 29-year-old sub-inspector was killed, after being run over by a train, near Kalapipal town in the district, police said today.

"The incident took place last night when the sub- inspector Umesh Chouhan was trying to cross a railway crossing," Kalapipal Police Station In-charge R S Barde said.

He did not notice an approaching train while trying to cross the railway track although the level crossing gate was shut for traffic, police said.

"He tried to cross the railway crossing from side way and in the process did not notice the Ahemedabad-Kolkata super-fast train, following which he was trapped under it and killed on the spot," Barde added.

His body has been handed over to his kin after autopsy, the officer said, adding a case was registered in this regard and a probe on.
