With the water level of the Subarnarekha river rising alarmingly following release of water from Jharkhand, the Odisha government today sounded a high alert in Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts.

About three lakh cusecs of water has been released from Jharkhand in the Subarnarekha, which is likely to reach Rajghat early tomorrow morning, the Special Relief Commissioner's office said.

The release of a huge volume of water is likely to cause high flood in the Subarnarekha basin in the Rasagobindpur block of Mayurbhanj and Jaleswar, Basta, Baliapal and Bhogarai areas in Balasore district, the SRC office said.

In view of the situation, collectors of these two districts have been alerted and asked to review the position.

The SRC office said that collectors of the two districts have been asked to deploy Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Fire Services personnel available in their respective districts at strategic locations to take up search and rescue operations.
