Around 63 SUCI members, along with activists of some ultra-Left organisations, were arrested today when they demonstrated in front of the north gate of the Assembly demanding reintroduction of pass-fail system in city schools.
The police said that they also demanded enactment of strict laws to stop torture of women and giving further licenses to shops selling wine.
The activists of the AIDSO, DSO, DYO and MSS held a rally at the same venue.
SUCI activists claimed that though they were demonstrating "peacefully", the police resorted to lathicharge in which six of them were injured and later admitted to a hospital.
