Press Trust of India New Delhi
Sugar prices settled on a steady note in the national capital today following sporadic demand even as the government hiked import duty.

Marketmen said prices which have been under pressure in the past few days, turned steady after the government hiked import duty on both raw and refined sugar from 15 per cent to 25 per cent.

They said, however, in coming days an increase in import duty may push sugar prices higher and help revive the business of cash-starved mills who owe farmers around Rs 6,800 crore.
