Sugar prices fell further by 1.02 per cent to Rs 2,535 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators offloaded positions, driven by higher supplies from mills against reduced offtake.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in July month fell by Rs 26, or 1.02 per cent to Rs 2,535 per quintal with an open interest of 14,070 lots.

Similarly, the sweetner for delivery in May contracts traded lower by Rs 20, or 0.81 per cent to Rs 2445 per quintal in 40,090 lots.

Analysts said offloading of positions by speculators, triggered by higher supplies from millers mainly kept pressure on sugar prices at futures trade.
