Sugar strengthens on firm demand

Prices of both varieties of sugar strengthened further at the Vashi wholesale market here today on firm demand from stockists and bulk consumers amid good export offtake.

Small sugar (S-30) climbed by Rs 16/10 per quintal to Rs 3,176/3,252 from Thursday's level of Rs 3,160/3,242.

Medium sugar (M-30) moved up by Rs 12 per quintal to Rs 3,242/3,402 as against Rs 3,230/3,402 yesterday.

Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:

Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 3,176/3,252 (Rs 3,160/3,242).

Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 3,242/3,402 (Rs 3,230/3,402).
