An advanced surgical simulation training centre was inaugurated at the centrally-sponsored JIPMER here today.
Director of JIPMER, S C Parija inaugurated the centre equipped with infrastructure including, machines, set up at a cost of Rs 5.8 crores, a release here said.
JIPMER is the only centre in the country to have robotic surgery simulation trainer, it added.

Parija said, "Robotic surgery is an emerging technique in which operative procedure is performed by the robotic arms."
The movement of the robotic arms is controlled by the surgeon from inside a control centre located away from the patient.
Surgical simulators are computer technology-based equipments developed to perform operations and procedures in machines for the purpose of training medical professionals.
The state-of-the-art simulation centre established in JIPMER has ultrasound scan simulator, three virtual reality laprascopic surgery simulators with real touch feeling, advanced robotic surgery trainer and nursing care simulator, the release said.
The first simulation course in advanced minimal access Gastro intestinal surgery was conducted after inauguration of the facility.
Around 15 medical professionals selected from different medical colleges in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu attended the course, it added.
