Suspected meningitis epidemic kills 745 in Nigeria: govt

The toll in a suspected meningitis epidemic in Nigeria has killed 745 people, a rise of over 250 in just over a week, the federal government said today.

Over 8,000 suspected cases of the disease have been reported across the country over the past five months although most have occurred in five northern states. The toll last week stood at 489.
