According to an official release the state government would spend as much as Rs 222 crore for the scheme.
"Initially the sarees will be distributed to all the women beneficiaries who have white ration card and are 18- years-old. The government is spending Rs 222 crore for 1.04 crore sarees. Half of the total sarees have been sourced from within the state," it said.
Remaining sarees have been procured through a nationwide tender, it said adding the distribution will be done between September 18 and 20.
