Tamil Nadu leads South Indian states in plastic consumption, which generates revenue of Rs 18,000 crore to plastic related businesses, a senior industry official said here today.
"With over nine lakh tonne of plastics consumption and increasing production to meet demand, Tamil Nadu leads among south Indian states. This generates revenue of over Rs 18,000 crore for plastic related businesses", Chairman of National Promotion Committee, southern region, V Sekar said in a press release.
In the small and medium enterprise sector, there are more than 8,000 plastic industries, which provide direct and indirect employment to 10 lakh people, he said.

Plastic manufacturers from the city are known for speciality plastics and especially those for automobile, electronic, hardware sectors.
Sekar and senior officials were here to announce the 10th edition of triennial event 'PLASTINDIA 2018',scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad next year.
"With over two lakh industry visitors and 2,000 exhibitors, including global leaders from 40 countries, this will be an opportunity that no industry can afford to miss", PLASTINDIA National Executive Committee Chairman Rajeev Chitalia said.
The event would be held from February 7 to 12 in Ahmedabad, he added.
