Tata Comm, HPE to build world's largest IoT network in India

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) today said it is working with Tata Communications to support the roll-out of India's first LoRaWAN-based network.

LoRaWAN is a low-power wide area network with features that support low-cost, mobile, and secure communication.

Tata Communications had unveiled plans for its LoRaWAN network last year.

"The first phase of the roll-out targets tier I, II, III and IV cities in India, touching over 400 million people. Alongside successful field trials in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore, there are also 35 proof-of-concept applications in trial on the network," a statement said.

Alcatel launches slew of smartphones
 

* Handset maker Alcatel today launched three new smartphones -- Alcatel A5 LED, Alcatel A3, Alcatel U3 and a 2-in-1 tablet, Alcatel Plus 12 at the Mobile World Congress here.

"Our customers have told us that taking and sharing photos, gaming, and streaming video are essential elements of a fun and social smartphone lifestyle," Alcatel Portfolio Management Director William Dowie said.

As of now, the company has not revealed the pricing and availability of these devices.

Blackberry launches BlackBerry KEYone

* Canadian handset-maker Blackberry has launched BlackBerry KEYone smartphone for USD 549 (about Rs 39,000) here.

The device will be manufactured by Chinese handset-maker TCL. It hits shelves in April and will be available globally.

* Motorola has launched two new smartphones -- the Moto G5 and G5 Plus -- here with prices starting at USD 299 (about Rs 14,000).

The devices will start retailing in March.

* Korean handset-maker LG has launched its new flagship smartphone -- the G6 -- here.

The G6 comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, 5.7-inch display, 3,300 mAh battery.
