Various organisations, including, today supported the teachers' protest, a day after the 14-month-old daughter of a teacher died due to illness, resulting in total chaos at the main bus stand here.
The elementary training teachers (ETT) were joined by state Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa, Punjab Kisan Morcha and Students Federation, in their protest for various demands, including better salary and emoluments.
Efforts by authorities to end the protest ended in vain, an official spokesman said, as the protesters intensified their stir and demanded Rs 20 lakh compensation and job to the bereaved family.

The 14-month-old daughter of Kiranjeet Kaur, who was participating in the protest, died yesterday due to illness.
The bereaved parents had accused the doctors of the local government hospital of dereliction of duty in treating the child.
Holding the state government responsible for the death of the child, Bajwa demanded an inquiry into the death, and action against the guilty.
