A Fact Finding Team which visited Melmangalam village where five houses of Dalits were set ablaze and five persons suffered burn injuries in an attack by a section of the Caste Hindu on April 7, has suggested setting up police out post in the village as dalits were still living in fear.

The attack ensued after Murugu Pandi, a Dalit, in an inebriated condition had allegedly lauded Suresh, who is also a Dalit, for marrying a Kallar caste girl (Caste Hindu) and fled the village.

The Caste Hindus had threatened parents of Suresh to send the girl back and gave one week time. But he did not sent her.

In the meanwhile Murugu Pandi's comments enraged the Caste Hindus who attacked the dalit colony in the village. Five houses were gutted and five persons suffered serious injuries in attacks, Rajini, an advocate and member of People's Union for Humanrights, an NGO said.

The Caste Hindus had warned Suresh against entering the village, she said.

The team said as the Dalits were still living in fear, a police out post should be set up.
