Building information modelling (BIM) software provider Tekla India officially announced today it has joined hands with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

The firm has entered into a strategic alliance with RICS and the RICS School of Built Environment to build a critical mass of quality talent pool and create better employment opportunities for young professionals across the construction and infrastructure industry, a statement issued here stated.

The RICS is a leading self-regulatory professional body for qualifications and standards in land, property, construction and associated environmental issues.

The collaboration would help educate students on BIM software technology using Tekla structures, through real estate and construction management courses which RICS School of Built Environment offers at its campuses in India, the statement said.

"The volume of construction and infrastructure is increasing in India and use of BIM can lead to enormous gains for the industry. Qualified BIM professionals are needed. It is thus important that we train the younger generation joining the industry," Tekla India Business Director Nirmalya Chatterjee said in the statement.

As a strategic partner, Tekla India would also be part of RICS's conferences and workshops, the statement said.

"The use of new technologies and deployment of project management strategies has made it possible to undertake projects of a mega scale," he said, adding that professional training opportunities in the field is important since it would help the industry work better, as well as achieve greater accuracy, efficiency and cost management.

Commenting on the alliance, RICS South Asia Managing Director Sachin Sandhir said, "The association will further enhance our education curriculum at the RICS School of Built Environment, by providing our students with expertise and knowledge to improve their skills as well as giving them an edge in an increasingly competitive market".
