Ten fishermen taken into custody by Sri Lankan Navy

Five of the fishermen are those stranded at mid-sea after their boat developed a technical glitch yesterday and five others, who went in search for them, Assistant Director of Fisheries Karthikeyan told reporters here.

Their boats were seized and all of them lodged in prison in Talaimanar in Sri Lanka, he said.

Meanwhile police said three other fishermen from nearby Dhanushkodi, alleged to be 'smugglers' by the Lankan Navy, were arrested and lodged in Kalpatti Jail in Jaffna today.
