Tension prevailed at the Madras High Court Bench premises here when a section of advocates, abstaining from work demanding Tamil be made the language of the court, disrupted proceedings in a court hall and allegedly manhandled a lawyer for not joining the protest.
A group of advocates, who went round the court chanting slogans, entered a court hall where a fellow-lawyer was arguing a case and allegedly assaulted him.
The Judge presiding over the court advised the agitators to maintain order in the court premises.

The court had recently dismissed two petitions which prayed for permission to present arguments in Tamil.
A section of the lawyers want to continue the boycott tomorrow also, but the community seemed to be divided as seniors were opposed to it.
