A Texas man has been put to death for a slaying 14 years ago in which the victim was tied up, stabbed 94 times and robbed of USD 50.
The execution of 37-year-old Arturo Diaz came yesterday evening after the US Supreme Court rejected a last-ditch appeal to stop his lethal injection. It's the 13th execution this year in Texas.
It's also the first to use the sedative pentobarbital obtained from a vendor or manufacturer Texas prison officials refuse to identify.

The state's existing supply of the drug expired, and Texas, like other death penalty states, had to find other sources for it since the usual manufacturers won't sell to prison agencies for executions.
Diaz was condemned for killing 25-year-old Michael Nichols at Nichols' apartment in McAllen.
