Valuables worth lakhs of rupees were today gutted in a fire in a thatched hut in nearby Gulabgarh village, police said here.

The hut of Sher Ali, a Gujjar, caught fire and valuables worth around Rs 6-7 lakh were burnt, police said, adding, no human casualties were reported but three goats and a pet dog died in the fire.

Fire fighting engines from Phagwara doused the fire after several hours, they said.

The fire broke out in wheat straw in the vicinity of the hut and the galloping flames also engulfed it. The blaze was allegedly caused by electric sparks, they said.
