: The accused in the theft of Rs nine lakh from the ticket counter of the central railway station here on July 19 have been arrested, one and a half months after the incident took place.
Railway police had initially suspected the counter staff for the loss of money and started investigations. In the meantime, the three staff on duty at the counter at that time had jointly reimbursed the money, fearing action.
The mystery behind the case was solved after Madhusoodan (39), a resident of Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu was arrested by Goa police in connection with the theft of about Rs 12 lakh from the Bank of India branch at Mapusa there.

On suspicion that the same person might be behind the theft at the ticket counter here after checking CCTV footage, Mangaluru railway police approached the Goa court seeking his custody. He was brought here and during interrogation he admitted his guilt, the railway police sources said.
The accused was produced before a court here yesterday and later taken to Goa, the sources said.
