"This Is Us" has lost one of its 11 Emmy nominations after the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences decided to disqualify its submission for "outstanding contemporary costumes for a series, limited series, or movie."

According to the Television Academy, to be eligible for a nomination in the category, a show must submit an episode in which "at least 51 percent of the action must take place within the past 25 years."

The NBC hit drama's majority of the episode did not take place in the required contemporary time period. Therefore, the Academy has revoked its nomination for the show's costume designer Hala Bahmet, as well as Marina Ray and Elinor Bardach.

"Having reviewed the 'Moonshadow' episode (the season- finale episode of 'This Is Us' that Bahmet submitted), the Awards Committee noted that the entrant unfortunately miscalculated the proportion of scenes that were period versus contemporary.

"In fact, the episode is predominately period. The entry (and subsequent nomination) are thereby disqualified. The sixth-place vote-getter - now the fifth nomination - will be identified by the accountants and will be revealed when the Television Academy's final round viewing platform opens on Monday," a TV Academy representative told The Hollywood Reporter.

"Big Little Lies", "Empire", "Grace and Frankie" and "Transparent" remain in the category.
