Three persons have been arrested by the crime branch of Chandigarh police for robbing a jeweller of Rs 1.10 crore, police said.
The incident took place on November 1 when city-based jeweller Samir Jain was about to board a bus for Delhi to buy gold from the Sector-17 bus stand here, police said, adding, he was carrying Rs 1.10 crore with him.
The accused, identified as Sikender Rehman, Jimmey Bansal and Rahul Bagiyal, looted the cash from him, they said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Rehman was the employee of Jain since four years and knew that his employer was going to Delhi with the cash, police said.
He allegedly hatched a conspiracy along with his friends to loot the money from Jain, they said.
The victim in his police complaint had said that he was hit with a stick by two miscreants, who snatched away his bag containing the cash on November 1.
Police have recovered cash amounting to Rs 89 lakh from them.
The three accused had been allegedly spending the looted money lavishly for the last few days, police said.
