Three cases registered for code violation

Three cases of violation of election code of conduct were registered in two parliamentary constituencies in the district and Rs 71 lakh unaccounted money seized in 19 places, a top offficial said today.

Two cases were registered in Valparai assembly constituency and the third case in Sulur assembly constituency, District Collector Archana Patnaik told reporters here.

While around Rs.44 lakh was returned to claimants of the Rs.71 lakh seized, Rs.27 lakh unclaimed money has been deposited in the treasury, she said.

A total of 1,040 arms, like pistol and guns, were surrendered by the public so far, as part of the election code, she said.
 

Stating that observers were appointed for both Coimbatore and Pollachi Lok Sabha constituencies, Archana said the district has 2,894 control units and 4,542 ballot units for the polling.
