Three women were killed and two others injured today, when a tractor trailer they were travelling in toppled sideways in Kangeyam in nearby Tirupur district, police said.
The incident occurred when the tractor trailer carrying 13 workers was proceeding to a paddy field, they said.
The trailer fell sideways after the driver lost control of the vehicle and all the workers fell off.
Three women, identified as Sarasammal (55), Saraswathi (30) and Karuppathaal (50) were caught under the harvester and died on the spot.
Two persons who sustained injuries were taken to Tirupur Government hospital, police said adding the driver Vignesh has been detained.
