Three labourers died of suffocation today while cleaning a drainage chamber at Dombivli in the district, police said.
"The incident occurred in afternoon when a labourer entered the chamber of a housing complex. However, after getting no response from him, two others also descended to check," said SS Borade, Assistant Inspector, Manpada police station.
He said the trio were later found dead inside the chamber.
Police suspect that they died due to suffocation.
A case of accidental death has been registered in this regard, he added.
The deceased are identified as Hanif Shaikh (41), Mohammad Hussain Mohammad Sheikh (28) and S K Ajagul (41).
Their bodies have been sent for postmortem.
