As per the directive of the Madras High Court, a three-member team, headed by the principal district judge, R Pongiappan today held an inquiry and recorded statement of the two women inmates of the Isha Yoga Centre, near here.
Pongiappan, accompanied by Rural SP, Ramya Bharati and another Judicial officer, went inside the Centre around 3.15 PM and recorded the statement of Geetha and Latha, now known as Maayu and Mati.
The report will be submitted to the High Court, police said.
Meanwhile, the sanyasins reiterated their statement that they were living in the Centre on their volition and not held captive and no pressure was being exerted on them to continue to stay there.
Somebody might have instigated their parents to file a complaint against the Centre, they alleged, adding that they presented their views before the inquiry team.
One Ramesh, a native of Tuticorin and who was working as an engineer in Singapore and now staying at the Centre, said he liked the atmosphere at the Centre and activities like tree planting.
The court had earlier directed the principal district judge, Coimbatore, to visit the the Yoga Centre and conduct an Inquiry with the inmates and 'detenues' and submit a report tomorrow.
A division bench, comprising Justice S Nagamuthu and Justice V Bharathidasan gave the direction on the Habeas Corpus petition filed by a parent of the two women living in the premises of the yoga centre.
