Suspected terrorists today carried out two hand grenade attacks on police in the city, injuring at least three policemen.

In the first attack, unidentified men travelling in a car lobbed a hand grenade at a police mobile on patrolling duty near Hasan Square in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area in which two policemen were injured, officials said.

In the second incident, a hand grenade was thrown at a police station on Tipu Sultan road in which one official was wounded.

The attack on the Tipu Sultan police station destroyed a wall and caused panic in the area.

The attackers managed to flee from the scene.

The attacks could be in retaliation to the ongoing operation against militants and criminals in the city since last year, a senior police official said.

Earlier in the day, police found a bomb device in a garbage heap in Baldia Town of Karachi.

Meanwhile, three notorious criminals were killed in a shootout tonight by the paramilitary rangers in gang-war infested Lyari area.
